Working in Cannock

Cannock grew as a mining town, so much of its housing is inter-war and post-war semis and short terraces, with newer estates at Heath Hayes, Norton Canes and Huntington and plenty of commercial units along the A5 and the M6 Toll corridor.

Most of Cannock's inter-war and post-war semis have concrete interlocking tiles laid on old bitumen felt; when that felt perishes and the mortar ridges loosen, a re-roof with breathable membrane and dry-fix ridges is often better value than repeated patching. Concrete interlocking tiles on old bitumen felt are typical of Cannock's inter-war and post-war housing, and many are now due for re-roofing with breathable membrane and dry-fix ridges.

For Cannock (WS11 and WS12), planning applications are handled by Cannock Chase District Council, and highways matters such as scaffold licences, skips on the road and dropped kerbs by Staffordshire County Council. Our yard at Kimberley Business Park is a straightforward run across Cannock Chase on the A460.

How we work

Every quote is itemised: what will be stripped, which materials go back, how the verges, ridges and abutments will be finished and how the site will be left. We work to the roof, not to a template, and we tidy and magnet-sweep the ground at the end of each day.

On older roofs we try to save what is sound and replace only what is failing, matching tiles and slates where we can. On new roofs and full replacements we use breathable membranes, treated battens and properly fixed dry or wet verges and ridges, so the whole roof is built to last.

Roofing in Cannock: common questions

What roofs do you see most in Cannock?

Concrete interlocking tiles on old bitumen felt are typical of Cannock's inter-war and post-war housing, and many are now due for re-roofing with breathable membrane and dry-fix ridges.

Should I repair or replace my roof?

If the underlay is sound and the problem is local, a repair makes sense. If the felt has perished, tiles are failing across the roof or leaks keep returning, a re-roof is usually better value. We will tell you honestly which applies.

How much does a roof repair cost in Cannock?

It depends on access, the size of the area and what is causing the problem. Small repairs from a ladder cost far less than work needing scaffold. We look at the roof first and give you a written, itemised quote, with no obligation.

Do you need scaffolding to repair my roof?

Not always. Some small repairs can be done safely from roof ladders or a tower, but most re-roofs, chimney work and longer jobs need scaffold for safety. Ours is supplied in-house by Staff4dshire Scaffolding.

Which areas near Cannock do you cover?

As well as Cannock itself we regularly cover Heath Hayes, Norton Canes, Huntington, Chadsmoor and Bridgtown, and the rest of Staffordshire and the West Midlands from our base in Rugeley.
