Working in Stone

Stone is a canal town on the Trent & Mersey, with Victorian terraces and older brick buildings around the High Street and newer estates on the edges of town. The A34, A51 and junction 15 of the M6 are all close by.

Around Stone we work on both town-centre infill sites and greenfield plots on the edge of town, each with very different access and spoil challenges. Stone sits in the Trent valley beside the canal, so drainage outfalls and ground levels near watercourses need particular care.

For Stone (ST15), planning applications are handled by Stafford Borough Council, and highways matters such as scaffold licences, skips on the road and dropped kerbs by Staffordshire County Council. Our yard at Kimberley Business Park is up the A51 past Great Haywood, roughly fifteen miles from our base.

How we work

We work to the engineer's design and building control requirements, keep spoil and deliveries organised, and leave the site safe and tidy at the end of each day.

We start with the drawings, the site investigation (if there is one) and a walk round the site to look at access, levels, spoil volumes and existing services. That lets us plan the dig, the muck away and the concrete pours in the right order and give you a clear programme.

Groundworks in Stone: common questions

Are there local ground or drainage considerations in Stone?

Stone sits in the Trent valley beside the canal, so drainage outfalls and ground levels near watercourses need particular care. We check the site and any available records before we price the work.

Do you do groundworks for self-builds in Stone?

Yes. We prepare plots for self-builders and developers: site clearance, foundations, drainage, service trenches and slabs, ready for the build to start.

Can you supply the plant and arrange muck away?

Yes. Plant comes from our sister company, Staff4dshire Plant Hire, and we arrange muck away and aggregate deliveries as part of the job.

What do groundworks include?

Typically site clearance, excavation, muck away, foundations, concrete slabs, drainage and service trenches, and sometimes external works like paving and kerbs.
