Working in Lichfield
Lichfield is a cathedral city with a large conservation area of Georgian and older brick buildings around the Close, Bore Street and Dam Street. Around that core are 20th-century estates such as Boley Park, Leomansley and Curborough, and big new developments at Streethay and on the southern edge of the city.
Some properties in Lichfield are in a conservation area, where the choice of surface and boundary details can need extra thought.
For Lichfield (WS13 and WS14), planning applications are handled by Lichfield District Council, and highways matters such as scaffold licences, skips on the road and dropped kerbs by Staffordshire County Council. Our yard at Kimberley Business Park is about nine miles down the A51 from our Rugeley yard.
How we work
We agree levels against the house damp-proof course, existing paths and the pavement before any work starts, and we leave the site swept and clean with the old surface removed.
We dig out to the right depth for vehicle loads, lay and compact a Type 1 sub-base in layers, then fix kerbs or edging before laying the surface. Cutting corners at this stage is why so many drives sink and rut.
